The 1-hour adaptive TOEIC Listening and Reading test is taken online.
For each section, candidates answer a series of questions (Unit 1) which are the same for all. Once Unit 1 has been completed, candidates move on to Unit 2, answering different questions based on their performance in Unit 1.
The test consists of two sections: Listening and Reading. Candidates answer multiple-choice questions (MCQs) within the allotted time. The type of questions is identical whether the test is administered in paper/pencil format or online, and whether the test is linear (2 hours) or adaptive (1 hour).
The listening comprehension section assesses the level of understanding of spoken English. It consists of four parts and 100 questions. You’ll have to answer questions based on a variety of statements, questions, short conversations and recorded speeches in English.
The reading comprehension section consists of three parts to assess your level of understanding of written English. You will read various documents and answer questions related to their content.

TOEIC tests are not tests that you “pass” or “fail”; each test has a minimum and maximum score.
TOEIC Listening and Reading test results indicate your level of proficiency in oral and written English, to demonstrate your ability to communicate in the workplace. Test scores are determined by the number of correct answers, which is then converted into a score ranging from 5 to 495 points. The results certificate provides the scores for Listening and Reading, the total scaled scores and a correlation with the CEFR levels. The final score is calculated by adding the scores of two sections.
The TOEIC Listening and Reading score correlation grid provides additional information on a test-taker’s strengths and weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
